The Healthy
Farms and Healthy Schools Program, as authorized by Act 184 of
2006, was established to educate kindergartners and their
families about the importance of choosing healthy, locally
produced foods while increasing awareness of Pennsylvania
agriculture. Any Pennsylvania school district, charter
school or private school with a kindergarten program is eligible
to apply for the Healthy Farms and Healthy Schools funds. A
maximum of $15,000 may be awarded to applicants and a 25% match
is required, either in the form of monetary or in-kind
expenditures. The grant agreement period is July 1, 2009 through
June 30, 2010.
Please forward
this information to any schools or farms in Pennsylvania that
may be interested in applying for a 2009 HFHS grant.

Leaders needed! The Professional
Development Group of PDA
Planning continues to shape another benefit
of PDA membership. Any member who has interest in
providing leadership on the steering committee is welcome to
attend planning meetings. This will be a productive time
to brainstorm the “who, what, when, and where?” of the PDG setup
to make it as member-friendly as possible. We are hoping
the PDG will be open for membership attendance by fall 2009.
Ready to Lead? Plan to attend the PDG
